Mardarije Uskoković, koga je Pupin kao prvog Vladiku dočekao u Njujorku

Beside huge lobbying for Serbia, Mihajlo Pupin also played an important part in the creation of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the USA. That is the proof of his enormous love for Serbian people, because he knew well that it would be difficult to preserve Christian-moral values of Serbs without the church. As soon as he was elected the President of the Association of United Serbs “Sloga” in 1909, he started seriously to be interested in the Serbian church. He supported priests in Serbian colonies that were connected to the Russian Orthodox Church since the Serbian one did not exist in America. He was greatly respected by the Serbian Patriarchs Lukijan and Dimitrije, as well as by Bishop Nikolaj Velimirović and first Serbian Bishop in America Mardarije Uskoković. Taking after Pupin, the Innovation Movement had good relations with the Orthodox and Catholic Church, as far as it was possible in Yugoslavia. Upon the breakdown of Yugoslavia, the cooperation between the Foundation and the Serbian Orthodox Church became closer, since the Church especially supported the work on the affirmation of Mihajlo Pupin. Patriarch Pavle extended special support to the October Conference. Whenever we asked for the audience and his blessing, we were never rejected. During his visit to America in 1992, he visited Pupin’s grave in New York carrying a piece of soil from Idvor and was accompanied by our member of the Managing Board Đorđe Berar, “Politika” journalist, Wu Chien, Professor at the Columbia University who attended the first October Conference in 1979 in Idvor, and others. He first blessed the soil from Idvor at the St Sava Church in New York. Patriarch Irinej blessed the Foundation’s edition of Pupin’s  autobiography which contains texts about the extent of everything Yugoslavia and Serbia did to return Pupin to  his roots.

His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije while working in Croatia and Slovenia as a bishop was the Presindent of the Board of Directors of the Serbian Company "Privrednik". We know that "Privrednik" was the company though which Pupin accomplished the largest amount of his voluntary work.

Thank you to the Patriarch
