Branko Kovačević (Belgrade, June 29, 1951) is a retired full professor, former dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and former rector of the University of Belgrade.

 

He was born in Belgrade on June 29, 1951, where he finished the elementary school "NH Siniša Nikolajević" and then the Eighth (now the Third) Belgrade Gymnasium.

 

He completed his studies at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Belgrade, where he graduated in 1975, received his master's degree in 1980 and his doctorate in 1984. For a time, he worked at the Mihajlo Pupin Institute in the Computer Science Laboratory (1975-1977) and at the Military Technical Institute (1977-1981). In 1981, he started working at the faculty as an assistant.

He speaks English, Russian and French. He has held lectures as a visiting professor at the Florida State University, in Turku in Finland, Baghdad and Tripoli. He has published around 300 scientific and professional papers. According to data from 2003, he is the author of eight books, mentor of about 100 graduate, 40 master's and 10 doctoral theses.

On December 18, 2006, he was elected Rector of the University of Belgrade by the Council of that University. His term lasted three years.

In 2012, he was reelected as dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, and in addition, in 2014, he became the president of the Supervisory Board of the Electric Power Industry (EPS) of Serbia.
